The photographs on the front and back cover of this issue of Poetry East were taken fifty years ago by my father. The front cover is a portrait of the editor, age five, relaxing at home with his dog. The photo on the back cover I found after my father died. Perhaps more than any other snapshot from our family album, it makes me wonder about him. What was he doing in Sad Monkey, Texas?
